Still Water, Living Lake
Still Water, Living Lake is a one-day summer gathering that brings together artists, ecological science, and community members to deepen public understanding of Long Lake and its ongoing recovery. The event will be put on in collaboration between Brown’s Creek Watershed District, A House Unbuilt, and three participating artists. The artists will lead participatory, site-responsive experiences that invite reflection, learning, and connection through low-impact artistic practice. The artistic experiences will include the following:
- Embodied/Performative Engagement – An artist will lead participants through an active and/or meditative exercise to become attuned to the lake, their bodies, and the surrounding environment.
- Community Voice & Listening – An artist will facilitate conversation and storytelling about the water, land, and health, with verbal or documented sharing.
- Hands-on/Material Participation – An artist will lead participants in exploration of ecological ideas through creation with natural or sustainable materials.
There will also be a watershed biologist present who will share plant samples and scientific expertise to support ecological learning. Still Water, Living Lake is an opportunity to engage the community in a moment of shared learning and care—honoring the lake’s ecological resilience while creating space for reflection, curiosity, and connection.
